Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Prof. Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim , the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Biology , organized a scientific workshop entitled “Diagnosis of Microorganisms from Various Samples: Isolation and Analysis Techniques.” The workshop was presented by M.s Maysam Blasim Naeem and Dr. Ikhlas Mushrif Eidan.

The workshop addressed contemporary scientific themes, focusing on mechanisms for collecting samples from diverse sources, including water, soil, foodstuffs, and clinical specimens. It also reviewed the principal techniques employed in isolating microorganisms using various culture media, as well as microscopic and biochemical diagnostic methods. In addition, the workshop introduced modern molecular techniques—most notably the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)—and highlighted their role in the accurate detection of pathogenic agents.

The program included a practical component conducted in instructional laboratories, during which participants were provided with hands-on training in isolation and diagnostic procedures in accordance with biosafety and quality control standards. This practical training contributes to the preparation of qualified scientific personnel capable of keeping pace with advancements in laboratory analysis and scientific research.

This activity forms part of the College’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 related to good health and well-being, by enhancing early diagnostic capacities for infectious diseases and contributing to the protection of public health. It also supports Goal 4 on quality education by developing applied learning skills and elevating academic outcomes. The College affirms its continued dedication to organizing scientific activities that enrich the learning environment and advance scientific research and community service.
