Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Samira Naji Kazem, the Continuing Education Unit organized a training course entitled “Methods for Preparing Culture Media and Diagnosing Bacteria.”
The course was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Zeina Hashim Shihab, Assistant Professor Dr. Rana Ali Hassan, and Professor Dr. Huda Suhail Abd, and was held in Abdul Hakim Hall, with the participation of a number of faculty members and female students.

The course addressed the importance of culture media in microbiology and their role in isolating and cultivating microorganisms from various sources such as soil, water, and clinical samples. It also highlighted their use in disease diagnosis, the study of microbial characteristics, the production of vaccines and pharmaceuticals, as well as their significance in scientific research, genetics, evolution, and microbial interactions.

The course also reviewed the types of culture media based on their physical state, including solid and liquid media, and according to their composition into natural and synthetic media. In addition, culture media were classified according to their purpose of use into selective, differential, and enrichment media.

The course witnessed active interaction and discussions from the attendees, with several questions raised and addressed by the lecturers, which contributed to enhancing the scientific benefit for the participants.
