Under the patronage of the respected Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Samira Naji Kazem, the Continuing Education Unit at the College organized a scientific workshop entitled “Mathematics and Astronomy.”
The workshop was presented by Assistant Lecturer Huda Emad Al-Din Jameel, Assistant Lecturer Fatima Ahmed Shihab, and Assistant Lecturer Samaa Mohammed Ezzat, with the participation of a number of female faculty members and students. This activity was part of the unit’s efforts to enhance scientific knowledge and link theoretical sciences with their cosmic applications.

The workshop included scientific lectures that addressed the pivotal role of mathematics as the fundamental language of science in interpreting astronomical phenomena. Mathematical equations and models contribute significantly to understanding the motion of planets and stars and to accurately predicting celestial events such as lunar and solar eclipses. The workshop also highlighted astronomy as one of the branches of science concerned with studying celestial bodies and related phenomena, aiming to understand the structure and evolution of the universe and to discover the laws governing it.

The workshop concluded by emphasizing the importance of integration between mathematics and astronomy in broadening scientific research horizons and developing students’ analytical thinking. It also stressed the necessity of supporting such scientific activities that contribute to enhancing academic culture and encouraging interest in basic sciences, in line with scientific advancement and in service of the educational process at the College.
