Dr. Asmaa Mahdi Salih, a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry at the College of Science for Women, University of Baghdad, participated in the proceedings of the Second International Conference on Languages, held under the theme “Languages as a Pathway to Foreign Culture.” Her participation represented a notable scholarly presence among a distinguished group of local and international researchers.
During the conference, she presented a rigorous academic paper in English literature entitled:
“Children of the Empire: Peter Pan and the Seeds of Colonial Thinking.”
The study offers an in-depth critical analysis of representations of colonial discourse in children’s literature through an examination of the symbols and implicit meanings embedded in Peter Pan, highlighting its deeply rooted cultural and intellectual dimensions.
The paper attracted considerable interest from conference participants due to its advanced analytical perspective, which integrates literary criticism with contemporary cultural studies. It further underscored the strong academic presence of researchers from the College of Science for Women and their capacity to contribute effectively to international scholarly forums.
