Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim , the Department of Chemistry organized a welcoming festival for first-year students. The event was held in the Conference Hall on the morning of Thursday, 4 December 2025, in coordination with the University Psychological Counseling Unit and the College’s Rehabilitation and Employment Unit.
The festival commenced with a recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an, followed by a welcoming address delivered by the Head of the Department and the faculty members. In their remarks, they expressed their pleasure at the students’ joining the Chemistry Department family, emphasizing the importance of this specialization and its vital role in advancing applied sciences.
The celebration included a comprehensive presentation on the significance of chemistry as a foundational science essential for understanding the composition and transformations of matter. The presentation also highlighted its role in the development of pharmaceutical, petrochemical, environmental, and food industries, in addition to its active contribution to contemporary scientific research.
The event further showcased the career prospects available to graduates of the Chemistry Department, outlining key professional fields such as university and hospital laboratories, chemical and pharmaceutical industries, environmental analysis and water quality centers, food production laboratories, as well as industrial safety and quality management.
Faculty members noted that chemistry is a specialization that offers wide opportunities for creativity and innovation, contributing to the preparation of scientific cadres capable of serving society and meeting the needs of the labor market.
The festival also clarified the essential roles played by the University Psychological Counseling Unit in providing psychological and emotional support to students, and by the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit in preparing them for integration into the labor market and developing their professional skills after graduation.
This festival comes as part of a series of activities organized by the department to strengthen communication between students and faculty members and to foster a positive academic environment that supports a successful beginning to their university journey.
