With great pride and honor, doctoral researcher Farah Abdul-Kafi from the Department of Physics at the College of Science for Women, University of Baghdad, under the supervision of Dr. Haider Al-Ta’i, Head of the Department, and Dr. Aseel Ibrahim from the Scientific Research Authority, achieved a distinguished accomplishment by winning the L’Oréal–UNESCO For Women in Science Award for Young Talents in Science for 2025.

This achievement represents a remarkable scientific milestone added to the record of Iraqi innovation. The researcher presented a pioneering project considered a revolutionary scientific step in the field of early cancer detection using laser technologies.

The study relied on high-precision optical techniques that enable the rapid and safe identification of cancerous cells without the need for any surgical intervention, opening promising horizons for developing more effective diagnostic methods in hospitals and health centers both inside and outside Iraq.

This outstanding scientific innovation reflects the capabilities of Iraqi minds and their commitment to serving humanity, reaffirming that Iraq continues to hold a strong presence in global scientific research through the efforts of its youth and researchers who persist in their creativity despite all challenges.
