Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim , and in conjunction with the Iraqi Anti-Drug Week, the Scientific Affairs Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Physics, organized an awareness workshop entitled “Youth Without Drugs, a Future Without Darkness.” The workshop was presented by Prof. Hiba Khudair Abbas, Ms. Noor Hassan Rashim, and Ms. Shahad Dhafer.

The workshop was held in support of national awareness programs and the promotion of protective values against risks threatening young people. It aimed to enhance students’ physical and psychological awareness and to empower them to avoid risky behaviors that negatively impact their lives and futures. The presenters provided a simplified explanation of the common types of drugs and their effects on the brain and body, in addition to clarifying the psychological and social consequences faced by individuals who misuse drugs.

The workshop also addressed the methods used by drug promoters to lure young people, emphasizing the importance of self-awareness, decision-making skills, and the ability to refuse harmful behaviors. The event witnessed active engagement from the students through questions and discussions that helped clarify prevention strategies and the role of families and the university environment in protecting students.

The workshop concluded by affirming the importance of continuing such activities to build an informed and resilient academic community capable of confronting challenges, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 related to good health and well-being.
