Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Prof. Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim , and in conjunction with the Iraqi Anti-Drug Week program, the Scientific Affairs Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Mathematics, organized an awareness workshop entitled “Drugs: Their Causes and Treatments.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Dheyaa Abdul Alwan, Dr. Nadia Mohammed Jawad, and Dr. Farah Jawad Kazem.

The workshop aimed to introduce the concept of drugs, their sources and types, and the factors contributing to the spread of this phenomenon—whether social, economic, or psychological—while clarifying how certain groups may be drawn into such dangerous behaviors. The presentations also addressed the direct effects of drugs on human health and physical and mental well-being, emphasizing that their impact is not limited to the individual but extends to pose a threat to the stability of families and society.

The workshop further provided a comprehensive overview of treatment and rehabilitation methods used in dealing with addiction cases, underscoring the importance of social and psychological support in reintegrating individuals into their natural environment, as well as outlining preventive measures and strategies to limit the spread of this phenomenon within the community.

This workshop contributes to the achievement of the third Sustainable Development Goal, which focuses on promoting good health and well-being for all and preventing harmful behaviors.
