The Psychological Guidance and Educational Counseling Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Biology at the College of Science for Women, organized an introductory ceremony for first-year students with the aim of welcoming them and familiarizing them with the academic and scientific environment of the department. The ceremony commenced with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an, followed by the reading of Al-Fatiha for the souls of the martyrs of Iraq, and the national anthem was performed in a celebratory atmosphere that reflected feelings of belonging and pride, in the presence of the Dean and her deputies.

The ceremony began with a speech by the Head of the Department of Biology , Dr. Mohammad Abdul-Ridha Hamdan, in which he explained the nature of the academic programs, curricula, and research methodologies offered by the department. He provided the students with a clear understanding of the college’s mission and its role in preparing a scientifically competent and aware generation, emphasizing the importance of academic commitment and the pursuit of knowledge and skills from the very first day. He also highlighted that the department provides a supportive learning environment that offers students extensive opportunities for both practical application and the development of research competencies, noting that the teaching staff is committed to providing all necessary support to ensure a successful and fruitful university experience.

The ceremony included an introduction of the department’s facilities and the roles of its academic and advisory committees, in addition to a brief overview of the scientific, research, and laboratory activities in which the department participates throughout the academic year. The event fostered a spirit of camaraderie and interaction between the students and the departmental staff, giving the new students a sense of comfort and belonging and contributing to strengthening their confidence in their ability to integrate into the university environment.

The ceremony concluded with the department reaffirming its ongoing support for the students throughout their academic journey and encouraging them to strive for excellence and actively participate in scientific and student activities that contribute to the development of their academic identity.
