The Rehabilitation and Employment Unit at the College of Science for Women – University of Baghdad Holds a Seminar Entitled
“Graph Theory Between Mathematics and Computer Science”
Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Prof. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit organized a scientific seminar entitled “Graph Theory Between Mathematics and Computer Science.” The seminar was presented by Dr. Saja Ghazi Mohammed, with the attendance of a group of faculty members, staff, and students.
The seminar introduced the fundamental concepts of graph theory and highlighted its significance in linking theoretical mathematics with applied computer science. It also clarified the relationship between mathematics and computing through the use of mathematical models in programming solutions, and presented practical applications of graph theory in modern fields. Additionally, the seminar explained the components of a graph—vertices and edges—as the foundational elements for constructing graphical models.
The seminar emphasized that Graph Theory is one of the most important branches of applied mathematics, as it connects abstract concepts with extensive practical applications in fields such as computer networks, software engineering, data analysis, artificial intelligence, and information systems. This theory is used to represent relationships among different entities, making it an effective tool for designing algorithms and analyzing complex systems.
The seminar addressed key types of graphical diagrams, including:
Simple Graph
Complex Graph
Isomorphic Graph
The seminar concluded by stressing the importance of integrating graph theory into modern applications and its vital role in supporting rapid advancements in computing and artificial intelligence. This integration enhances students’ ability to employ mathematical foundations in service of technological applications.
