Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Student Activities Division / Voluntary Work Unit, in cooperation with the Baghdad Al-Karkh Health Directorate – Media Sector, organized an awareness seminar on breast cancer, presented by Maisam Diaa Younis, Head of the Health Promotion Unit.
The seminar aimed to clarify the importance of early detection and regular screening in increasing the chances of recovery. It also introduced participants to the early symptoms of the disease, such as abnormal breast lumps, changes in skin appearance or the nipple, and any discharge that requires immediate medical examination.
The seminar further addressed risk factors associated with breast cancer, including family history, hormonal changes, obesity, and smoking, with an emphasis on preventive measures such as maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly, and following a balanced diet.
Additionally, the seminar highlighted the importance of monthly self-examination, clinical examination, and mammography after the age of forty, as well as the significance of psychological and social support for patients.
The event concluded by emphasizing the role of awareness initiatives in promoting health culture and encouraging the community to adopt a healthy lifestyle that contributes to reducing disease risks.
