College of Science for Women Holds Memorial Ceremony to Commemorate the Achievements of Professor Dr. Sabah Abdul-Ridha Majid Al-ObaidiUnder the patronage of the esteemed Dean of the College of Science for Women at the University of Baghdad, Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the College organized a memorial ceremony to honor the scientific and humanitarian contributions of the late Professor Dr. Sabah Abdul-Ridha Majid Al-Obaidi, a faculty member of the Department of Biology and one of the college’s distinguished figures who left a remarkable legacy in higher education and scientific research.

The ceremony was attended by the Dean and a number of department professors and staff, who expressed their deep appreciation for the late professor’s scholarly and educational efforts that significantly enriched the university’s academic journey.

The deceased was born in 1946. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree from the College of Science, University of Baghdad, in 1971, followed by a Master’s degree from the University of Nebraska, USA, in 1976, and a Doctorate from the University of New England, Australia, in 1986, specializing in Animal Physiology – Hormones and Reproduction.

Professor Al-Obaidi worked at the College of Science for Women, University of Baghdad, where he taught several essential scientific courses, including Anatomy, Physiology, Advanced Physiology, Reproductive Physiology, and Animal Physiology. He played a pivotal role in preparing generations of students, supervising ten graduate students, and publishing 35 scientific papers in reputable local and international journals.

He also participated in over 20 scientific conferences and symposia within Iraq and abroad and contributed significantly to enriching scientific literature by translating the book Biology of Lactation into Arabic. Moreover, he received numerous letters of appreciation and recognition for his outstanding contributions.

The late professor held several positions within the college, including Department Coordinator and Acting Head of the Department of Life Sciences for multiple terms, earning distinction through his ethical character, scientific dedication, and academic integrity.

The ceremony concluded with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatiha and prayers for mercy and forgiveness for the deceased, asking Almighty Allah to envelop him in His vast mercy, grant him a place in His spacious paradise, and inspire patience and solace for his family, relatives, and loved ones.
