A Training Course Organized by the Continuing Education Unit on “Academic Researcher Skills: From Reference Management to Publication and Research Ethics”
Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim , the Continuing Education Unit organized a training course entitled “Academic Researcher Skills: From Reference Management to Publication and Research Ethics”. The course was held in Al-Hakim Hall, with the participation of a number of faculty members and postgraduate students from various departments.
The course comprised three main axes, presented by a distinguished group of the college’s academic staff.
The first axis, presented by Dr. Yusra Abdul Sahib Saif Al-Din, Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, focused on the Mendeley program. She discussed how to manage and organize scientific references using this tool, explaining the mechanisms for utilizing it in storing, arranging, and formatting research sources in accordance with academic standards.
The second axis was presented by Dr. Fikrat Majeed Hassan, Editor-in-Chief of the Baghdad Science Journal, who addressed the mechanisms for selecting reputable scientific journals and the criteria for proper academic publishing. He emphasized the key principles that researchers should follow to avoid predatory journals and ensure that their research is published in credible and recognized platforms.
The third axis, presented by Dr. Ameen Hadi, Head of the Department of Chemistry, dealt with research ethics and standards of research practice in accordance with international guidelines. He underscored the importance of academic integrity and adherence to publication ethics and intellectual property rights.
The course aimed to enhance the skills of researchers and academics in various research aspects by integrating technical, practical, and ethical knowledge, thereby contributing to the preparation of researchers capable of producing and publishing high-quality, credible scientific studies.
The training course also included practical applications conducted by the lecturers to ensure that participants gained tangible and applicable benefits.
