Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Prof. Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim , the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Computer Science, organized a scientific workshop entitled “Techniques for Handling Missing Data and Noise in Data Mining Projects.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Aboud Khreibat Jasim, Mr. Zaid Sadiq Ni‘mah, and Assist. Ms. Suad Ali Ubaid, and it was attended by a number of faculty members and students.
The workshop included a comprehensive scientific presentation highlighting the importance of addressing missing data and noise in data mining projects, given their direct impact on the accuracy of results and the efficiency of analytical models. The presenters explained the main causes and types of missing data, as well as the statistical and computational methods used to compensate for them, such as imputation techniques using averages or predictive models. In addition, they discussed techniques for detecting and handling noise through advanced algorithms and data filtering and cleaning processes.
The workshop also reviewed practical applications using data analysis tools, emphasizing the role of data preprocessing in improving the performance of data mining algorithms and enhancing the quality of outputs in artificial intelligence and big data analysis projects. The presenters stressed that neglecting this stage may lead to biased results or reduced model efficiency, which can negatively affect the decisions based on such analyses.
The workshop concluded by emphasizing the importance of developing the skills of students and researchers in the field of data processing and analysis, and highlighting its role in supporting scientific research and improving the quality of academic studies in computer science and related disciplines.
