Master Discussion
The College of Science for Women at the University of Baghdad examined a master’s thesis entitled “Effect of phenolics of alcoholic extract and nanoparticles of leaves of Vitex agnus in Biologic of Cadra candella (Lepidoptera:pyralidea)”, presented by the postgraduate student Amna Hamed Shaker Mahmood as a requirement for the degree of Master of Science in Biology/Zoology. The study was supervised by Prof. Dr. Soolaf Abd Kathiar
The thesis focused on studying the effect of concentrations of the crude extract, phenols, and nanocapsules of the leaves of the chaste tree (Vitex agnus) plant in controlling the date moth (Cadra candela).
The thesis included a study of the insect mortality rates, where it was observed that the mortality rate increased with increasing concentrations of the treatment. It was also noted that the nanocapsules were superior to the crude extract.
The study recommended expanding the scope of application of plant extracts and nanocapsules, especially Vitex agnus, in integrated pest management programs for controlling pests, especially the date moth, after harvest and storage.
