Master’s Discussion
College of Science for Women / University of Baghdad examined the Master’s thesis entitled (Production of Some Glycosidic and Lactonic Compounds in Tulipa gesneriana L. Plant by Plant Tissue Culture Technique) submitted by the student Israa Adnan Salman.
The objectives of this study are summarized as follows:
The thesis aims to induce callus formation from tulip plant parts and investigate the effect of various plant growth regulators on callus induction efficiency and characteristics, in order to extract bioactive secondary compounds (such as Tuliposides and Tulipalins) sustainably invitro.
The thesis also includes identifying and quantifying the active compounds in the extracts using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), in addition to purifying Tulipalin A and confirming its structural identity using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR).
- Conduct future studies to evaluate the antibacterial and antifungal activity of the isolated compounds from tulip callus, especially Tulipalin A.
- Study the effect of chemical or physical elicitors on the tulip callus to increase the production and yield of secondary compounds.
- Compare the efficiency of different tissue culture systems, such as suspension and liquid cultures, in enhancing the production of these compounds.
