Thesis Discussion
The College of Science for Women at the University of Baghdad held a Master’s thesis defense titled: Assessment of Glycogen Synthase kinase 3-β , Arrestinβ-1 in Obese Patients
by the student: Asmaa Mohammed Abd Aljalil
The importance of this study Measurement of GSK3β and Arrestien β-1 in patients with metabolic disorders and (T2DM patients with obesity) and their relationship to oxidative stress that causes metabolic disorders.
- To estimate the level of GSK3β in patients with metabolic disorders.
- To estimate the level of Arrestie β-1 in patients with metabolic disorders .
- To find the relationship between GSK3β and Arrestien β- 1, and determining the association with insulin resistance .
- To determine the association of both GSK3β and Arrestienβ-1 with other biochemical parameters as well as with oxidative stress.
This study was conducted at the College of Science for Women, University of Baghdad.A total of 135 participants were enrolled from Al-Yarmouk Teaching Hospital and were divided in to three groups. The participants aged (30 -55) years. Instead of the groups were divided according to body mass index and metabolic diseases into three groups:The control group (G1= 46) healthy individuals who did not suffer from obesity, diabetes, or any other diseases, metabolic diseases group(G2= 45) and T2DM with obesity group (G3=44) . The study included healthy people, patients dyslipidemia, hyperglycemia and obesity and T2DM with obesity.
Main Recommendations of the Thesis:
- Study the relationship between GSK3α and Arrestinβ-2 by taking samples from overweight individuals without any medical conditions, particularly those aged 10-30.
- Study the relationship between GSK3α and Arrestinβ-4, as they only suffer from obesity, cancer, and neurological dysfunction.
- Studying the role of GSK-3α and Arrestinβ-2 in Alzheimer’s disease and the effects of GSK-3α inhibition on memory and learning.
- Studying the relationship between GSK-3α and Arrestinβ-2 psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and depression.
- Studying of the role of GSK-3β and Arrestinβ-1 in T1DM patients receiving insulin injections
