Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, a workshop was held titled “Regulations for Application and Admission to Postgraduate Studies for the Academic Year 2025/2026.” The event was organized by the Continuing Education Unit and the Postgraduate Studies Division at our college, in collaboration with the Postgraduate Studies Department at the University of Baghdad.
The workshop was presented by Ms. Manal Jabbar Salman, Ms. Athraa Khairy Abd, and Mr. Haider Abdulzahra Abbas, and was attended by the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, Dr. Yusra Abdul Sahib Saif Al-Din, as well as several department heads, faculty members, and college staff.
The primary objective of the workshop was to familiarize participants with the application procedures for postgraduate studies in accordance with the guidelines and regulations issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Key topics discussed included the eligibility criteria for employees applying for postgraduate studies, whether under government sponsorship or self-funding. The workshop clarified the laws and adherence to instructions, emphasizing that applicants for Master’s (or equivalent) programs must have a minimum GPA of 65% on the general admission channel, whether they are employees (according to Study Leave Instructions No. 165 of 2011) or non-employees. For Ph.D. programs, the minimum GPA required is 70% for both employees and non-employees across all application channels. Moreover, employee applicants must have at least two years of actual service.
The workshop also elaborated on the criteria used for ranking and selecting candidates, including success in the competitive examination, interview performance, and other relevant details.
Attendees were briefed on the required documentation and accurate information submission during the electronic application period, emphasizing that any false or incorrect data would lead to the cancellation of admission.
Speakers also highlighted the role of the verification committees in ensuring the consistency of applicants’ information both in paper and electronic formats. Numerous questions and discussions were addressed throughout the session.
In conclusion, the workshop speakers were honored by the college administration with certificates of appreciation in recognition of their efforts in organizing and contributing to the success of the event.
