Under the patronage of Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, Dean of the College of Science for Women, the Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Physics, organized a workshop titled “Regular Sleep and Its Impact on the Academic Performance of University Students”. The workshop was presented by Assistant Prof. Dr. Nasreen Khalil Abdul Amir and Ms. Huda Mohammed Jafar.
The workshop aimed to highlight the importance of regular sleep and its direct impact on university students’ ability to concentrate and perform academically. Scientific studies indicate that good sleep not only enhances overall health but also significantly improves memory, attention, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills—essential abilities in academic life.
During the workshop, experts’ opinions on the scientific field were discussed, emphasizing the negative effects of insufficient or disturbed sleep on academic performance. Sleep deprivation increases students’ susceptibility to distraction and loss of focus, which negatively affects their ability to comprehend lessons and effectively review academic content. The workshop proposed several strategies to develop a healthy and regular sleep pattern that could improve both mental and physical performance.
This workshop is a valuable opportunity to offer assistance in understanding the profound relationship between sleep and academic performance and how students can utilize this information to improve their university life.
