Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, Dean of the College of Science for Women, the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Biology, organized a scientific workshop entitled “The Environmental Impact of Narcotic Substances.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Israa Mohsen Jassim, Dr. Jinan Shawqi Zamil, and Dr. Hanaa Kamil Hamad.
The workshop addressed the serious environmental impacts of narcotic substances and their residues, particularly their contribution to soil and water pollution, their effects on living organisms and ecological balance, and their potential consequences for ecosystems. It also highlighted the mechanisms through which these substances can be transferred through food chains and the indirect health risks they may pose to human beings.
The lecturers emphasized the importance of public awareness and environmental monitoring in reducing the spread and environmental consequences of this phenomenon. They also presented several scientific approaches for detecting pollutants resulting from narcotic substances, as well as methods for treating such contamination and mitigating its adverse effects.
The workshop concluded by emphasizing the importance of strengthening environmental awareness among students and researchers, highlighting its role in protecting the environment, reducing the risks associated with narcotic substances, and supporting scientific research in this field.
