Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, Dean of the College of Science for Women, the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the relevant department, organized a scientific workshop entitled “Plasma in Dentistry.” The workshop was presented byMs. Rasha Saad Akram, Ms. Zainab Raad Salman, and Dr. Saif Abdul-Hadi Najm, M.Sc. in Operative and Cosmetic Dentistry.

The workshop provided a scientific introduction to dentistry and its importance in maintaining oral and dental health, with particular emphasis on contemporary dental fields, including cosmetic treatments, teeth whitening, and orthodontics. These areas play an important role in enhancing overall appearance in addition to providing therapeutic benefits.

The lecturers discussed the various teeth-whitening techniques, including whitening using transparent aligners containing specialized bleaching agents, in-office whitening using light-based technologies and highly concentrated bleaching materials, and internal whitening of endodontically treated teeth. The differences among these techniques were explained in terms of treatment outcomes, speed of effectiveness, and suitability for individual cases.

The workshop also reviewed the main types of orthodontic treatment, including conventional metal braces, ceramic braces, clear aligners, and removable orthodontic appliances, highlighting the advantages and clinical applications of each type.

In addition, the workshop highlighted the potential role of medical plasma in supporting these procedures through tissue disinfection and the reduction of bacterial load and inflammation. Such applications may contribute to improving the outcomes of whitening and orthodontic procedures, accelerating the healing process, and enhancing treatment efficacy.

The workshop concluded by emphasizing the importance of adopting modern technologies in the advancement of dentistry, as well as their role in developing the skills of students and researchers, improving the quality of healthcare services, and enhancing the quality of scientific research.
