Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Women’s Affairs Unit, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit, organized a workshop entitled “Errors in the Use of Antibiotics.” The workshop was delivered by Dr. Huda Suhail Abd, Dr. Rana Ali Hussein, and Ms. Bashaer Nasser Hassoun from the Department of Biology.

The workshop addressed the most common errors associated with the use of antibiotics, including self-medication without medical consultation, failure to adhere to prescribed dosages and treatment duration, and the inappropriate use of antibiotics for viral infections, which do not respond to this class of medication.

The presenters also highlighted the health risks resulting from the misuse of antibiotics, particularly the growing problem of antimicrobial resistance, which makes many bacterial infections increasingly difficult to treat in the future. Furthermore, the workshop reviewed the scientific principles underlying the appropriate use of antibiotics, emphasizing the importance of health education in reducing the prevalence of improper antibiotic use and promoting sound pharmaceutical awareness within the community.

The workshop concluded by reaffirming the importance of raising public awareness regarding the rational and appropriate use of antibiotics and its vital role in protecting public health and mitigating the spread of antimicrobial resistance. Such efforts contribute to supporting scientific and medical initiatives while enhancing the overall quality of healthcare services.
