Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry at the College of Science for Women, organized a scientific workshop entitled “Heavy Metal and Pesticide Toxicity and Strategies for Risk Reduction.” The workshop was presented by Professor Dr. Nasser Diaa Shalaan and Dr. Ahmed Younis Abd.

The workshop addressed the concept of heavy metals and pesticides and their adverse effects on both human health and the environment. It highlighted the major sources of contamination by these hazardous substances and explained the mechanisms through which they are transferred along food chains. Furthermore, the workshop discussed the health consequences associated with chronic exposure, including neurological disorders and the impairment of vital organ functions.

The presenters also reviewed the most effective preventive measures for minimizing the risks associated with heavy metals and pesticides. These measures included the adoption of modern and safe pesticide management practices, the reduction of industrial pollution, and the promotion of environmental awareness within the community.

The workshop concluded by emphasizing the importance of disseminating health and environmental awareness among students and researchers, as well as the necessity of adhering to preventive measures to reduce the risks of heavy metal and pesticide poisoning. It also underscored the role of such educational initiatives in supporting scientific research and enhancing the quality of academic studies.
