The College of Science for women at the University of Baghdad discussed the master’s thesis entitled( Measurement Levels of Neurofilament Light Chain (NFLC) Levels in The Sera of Patients With High Blood Pressure as a Risk factor for Dementia)

Objectives of the Thesis
- The purpose of the study is to evaluate the NFLC as a biomarker for dementia risk in Iraqi hypertensive patients
- To identify correlations between NFLC and SOD in hypertensive subjects.
- Other parameters, such as FBS, and lipid profile, were also measured in both the patient and healthy control groups.
Content of the Thesis
This study, which was conducted at the University of Baghdad / College of Science for Women / Department of Chemistry and Al Yarmouk Teaching Hospital and Abo-Ghraib General Hospital al in Baghdad, Iraq, between August to November 2024. Levels of NFLC, SOD, measured using ELISA via the Human Reader HS device.
Recommendations of the Thesis
- Periodic assessment of serum neurofilament light chain (NfL) levels is recommended in hypertensive patients at increased risk of cognitive decline, as it may be a valuable biomarker for the early detection of neuronal damage.
- . Early and effective blood pressure control should be emphasized to reduce the risk of neurodegenerative changes and cognitive impairment.
- Further studies are recommended to evaluate the combined use of NfL with other blood biomarkers or neuroimaging to improve the accuracy of dementia prediction
