Dissertation Discussion

College of science for women/University of Baghdad examined the dissertation entitled (Effects of Moringa oleifera Silver Nanoparticles on Induced Subfertility of Swiss Albino Male Mice)) of the student Jwan Khalid Hammood Abdullah

Objectives of the Dissertation

The dissertation aims to evaluate the effect of silver nanoparticles synthesized from Moringa leaves (Mo-AgNPs) on some male fertility parameters, in comparison with the effect of the drug (Pregnyl) used in treatment protocols for male subfertility.

Content of the Dissertation

The dissertation also includes the study of fertility parameters in five experimental groups of male Swiss albino mice with induced subfertility, which were then treated with physiological saline, the drug (Pregnyl), the aqueous extract of Moringa leaves, silver nanoparticles, and silver nanoparticles synthesized from Moringa leaves. The studied parameters after the end of the treatment period included:

  1. Semen quality
  2. Concentration of reproductive hormones in blood serum
  3. Histological study of the changes occurring in testicular tissue.
  4. Evaluation of the reproductive capacity of these males
Dissertation Recommendations

The most important recommendations which the study has come up with and the average obtained:

  1. This study represents a first step toward developing a plant-based treatment for fertility disorders; however, there is a need for further studies in females, at the molecular level, in addition to clinical studies.
  2. Despite the antimicrobial ability of silver nanoparticles, the safety of their use must be ensured by determining the optimal dose, improving surface coating, and conducting long-term toxicity studies of these nanoparticles before clinical use.
  3. Future studies should focus on optimizing and standardizing plant-synthesized silver nanoparticles, and evaluating their potential as a safe therapeutic option that is alternative or adjunct to hormonal therapy in cases of subfertility.
