Under the patronage of the esteemed Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Kazem, the Continuing Education Unit organized a workshop entitled “Research Ethics and Academic Publishing.” The workshop was presented by Professor Dr. Fikrat Majid Hassan and Professor Dr. Solaf Khudair Abdul.
The workshop aimed to shed light on the fundamental concepts of research ethics and the importance of adhering to scientific integrity and objectivity in conducting research. It also clarified the ethical regulations related to academic publishing, such as avoiding plagiarism, respecting intellectual property rights, ensuring accurate citation of sources, and complying with the standards of accredited scientific journals locally and internationally.
The speakers addressed the major challenges faced by researchers in the field of academic publishing, mechanisms for selecting reputable journals, and ways to deal with predatory publishers and journals. In addition, they explained the responsibilities of the researcher, co-author, and scientific reviewer, as well as the role of research ethics in enhancing the reputation of academic institutions and improving their scientific ranking.
The workshop witnessed notable interaction from participants through questions and scientific discussions that enriched the topics and contributed to clarifying many issues related to sound research practices.
At the conclusion of the workshop, emphasis was placed on continuing to organize such purposeful scientific activities, which contribute to developing researchers’ skills and reinforcing the principles of integrity and ethical commitment in scientific research, in line with the requirements of quality assurance and academic accreditation.
