Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Prof. Dr. Samira Naji Kazem, the Special Needs Unit, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit, organized an awareness workshop entitled “Promoting Awareness of the Rights of People with Special Needs” at Al-Riyada Hall, in the presence of a number of faculty members and staff.
The workshop was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Hiba Ali, Head of the Special Needs Unit, and Chief Engineer Enas Ahmed Abd from the Information Technology Division.
The workshop aimed to enhance community awareness of the rights of people with special needs, as they represent an active and important segment of society and are entitled to guaranteed rights that ensure them a decent life and positive integration in various fields of life.
The workshop addressed the definition of people with special needs as individuals who experience difficulties in performing certain daily tasks as a result of physical, cognitive, psychological, educational, or communication disabilities. It also discussed the causes of disability, including factors before, during, and after birth.
The lecturers emphasized the importance of strengthening the humanitarian aspect in dealing with this group, respecting their rights to education and employment, and providing an appropriate environment that guarantees their human dignity, with the necessity of rejecting all forms of bullying or discrimination.
The workshop concluded by emphasizing the role of society and institutions in supporting people with special needs through raising awareness and organizing activities and awareness campaigns that contribute to enhancing their integration and building a more just and equitable society.
