Under the patronage of the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit at the College of Science for Women organized a workshop entitled “The Ethical Framework of Human Rights.” The workshop was presented by the Assistant Dean for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Dr. Salah Khairi Jaber, and Dr. Adel Hussein Talib, in the presence of a number of faculty members, staff, and female students of the College, on Sunday, December 14 of the current month.
The workshop addressed the concept of the ethical framework of human rights, emphasizing that all human beings are born equal and are entitled to protection regardless of any personal characteristics. It highlighted that this framework is based on moral and legal obligations toward individuals. The workshop also shed light on the role of international standards in establishing rules for the protection of human rights and in guiding scientific and technological developments in ways that serve human well-being.
The lecturers explained the fundamental principles of the ethical framework of human rights, foremost among them the principle of inherent dignity, which affirms that every human being is born with equal and independent dignity. In addition, the principles of individual freedom and social justice were discussed, emphasizing the protection of personal liberties and the assurance of justice in the face of injustice and exploitation.
The workshop also addressed the principle of equality and non-discrimination as inalienable universal rights applicable to all individuals without exception. Furthermore, the mechanisms for implementing the ethical framework through laws and international treaties were clarified, noting that international declarations and conventions—such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights—serve as binding legal and ethical references for states.
The workshop concluded with valuable interventions and discussions between the attendees and the lecturers, which contributed to raising awareness of the importance of the ethical framework of human rights and its role in building a just and equitable society.
