Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Prof. Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim , the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit organized an awareness workshop entitled “Extremism and Violence,” presented by Ms. Sura Khalil Ibrahim and Dr. Asmaa Mahdi Saleh. The workshop was held as part of the programs aimed at promoting awareness and strengthening a culture of peace within the university community.
The workshop addressed the issue of extremism as one of the most prominent challenges facing youth today, underscoring the importance of awareness initiatives that help protect individuals from drifting toward radical ideologies. It included a detailed explanation of the concept of extremism and its various forms, the methods used by extremists to attract young groups, as well as a discussion of the psychological and social factors that contribute to the rise of violent behavior.
The workshop also examined the negative impacts of extremism and violence on individuals and society, and the repercussions these phenomena have on social and educational stability. Emphasis was placed on the importance of fostering dialogue, tolerance, and sound intellectual awareness among students, with reference to the vital role educational institutions play in building a conscious generation resilient to extremist rhetoric.
