Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, Dean of the College of Science for Women, the Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Physics, organized a scientific workshop entitled “Sound Waves and Their Anesthetic Effect.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Sama Hikmat Abdul Wahab. The workshop addressed the physical foundations of sound waves and their properties, including frequency, amplitude, and wavelength, as well as the mechanisms by which sound waves propagate through different media. It also examined their physiological effects on the human body and nervous system.
The workshop further explored the concept of the anesthetic effect associated with certain sound frequencies and the mechanisms through which they interact with the brain. It also highlighted scientific and medical applications related to this field, while drawing attention to the potential risks associated with prolonged exposure to certain high-intensity sound waves. The lecturer emphasized contemporary applications in physical therapy and medical technologies, as well as the role of such studies in advancing scientific understanding of the relationship between sound and human health.
The workshop concluded by emphasizing the importance of developing the skills of students and researchers in the field of applied physics, particularly in relation to the study of sound waves and their effects. It also highlighted the contribution of such research to supporting scientific inquiry and enhancing the quality of academic study.
