The College of Science for women at the University of Baghdad discussed the master’s thesis entitled (The Role of Agouti-Related Peptide, Myeloperoxidase, and Other Biochemical Parameters in Sera of Obese Individuals with and without Diabetes Mellitus)

Objectives of the Thesis
1.To determine the levels of AgRP and MPO using the ELISA.
2.To determine the lipid profile and FBS by using colorimetric methods and measure the insulin hormone and HOMA IR.
3.To determine the relationship of AgRP and MPO with all parameters.
Content of the Thesis
- This study, which was conducted at the University of Baghdad / College of Science for Women / Department of Chemistry and Al Yarmouk Teaching Hospital in Baghdad, Iraq, between August to November 2025. Serum levels of AgRP and MPO and serum insulin levels were determined using (Sandwich ELISA). Fasting blood sugar (FBS) and lipid profile were analyzed using a spectrophotometer, and (HOMA-IR) was calculated based on fasting blood glucose and serum insulin levels.
Recommendation of the Thesis
- AgRP and MPO indicators are used for early prediction of metabolic disorders, but it is difficult to use them as sole diagnostic indicators.
- Future studies should measure the activity of the MPO enzyme.
- To better understand the mechanism of appetite regulation, the relationship between AgRP and oxidative stress needs to be studied more deeply.
