Master’s Discussion
The College of Science for women at the University of Baghdad discussed the master’s thesis entitled (Design and Spectroscopic Study of Some Metal Ion Complexes with a New Azo Ligand and Their Application as Dyes and Antioxidants)
By the student: Shrouq Masad Khudair Abbas.
Objectives of the Thesis
- The objectives of this study are summarized as follows:
- Preparation of a new Azo ligand possessing two Azo groups of the amino compound (4-methylbenzene-1,2-diamine).
- Preparation of several metal complexes of the prepared ligand with metal ions (Chromium, Manganese, Iron, Cobalt, Nickel, Zinc, Molybdenum, Ruthenium, Rhodium, palladiom, Cadmium, Platinum).
- Varification of the prepared structures and formulation of the compounds using available spectroscopic and physical techniques (Infrared, Ultraviolet-visible, Mass spectrometry, Proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, Thermogravimetric decomposition curve, Elemental analysis, Molar conductivity, Magnetic susceptibility, Chlorine content and Melting point) .
- Determination of the thermal stability of the compounds.
- Preparation of compounds with oxidative and free radical scavenging capabilities.
- Preparation of compounds that can be used as dyes for cotton and silk fabrics.
Content of the Thesis
- This study, which was conducted in the Chemistry Department, College of Science for Women in the University of Baghdad , and in the laboratories of the Science and Technology Department, Department of Environmental, Water, and Renewable Energy Research, Baghdad, and in the laboratories of the Chemistry Department, College of Science, Al-Mustansiriya University, Baghdad, and in the laboratories of the College of Education for pure Sciences, University of Basra, and in the laboratories of the College of Applied Sciences, University of Samarra ,and in the laboratories of Cairo University, Center for Precision analysis, Egypt, from October 2025 to January 2026 , To measured Ultraviolet-visible spectra , elemental analysis, Infrared spectra, Flam atomic absorption spectra, Proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectra , mass spectra, Magnetic susceptipility , Thermogravimetric analysis, molar conductivity , melting point ,PH, and chlorine content, also measured antioxidant activity of the prepared compounds.
Recommendation of the Thesis
The most important recommendations reached by the thesis are:
- New azo Ligand complexes can be prepared with lanthanides and Actinides.
- The biological activity of the prepared compounds as anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial agents, etc., should be studied and compared with some drugs on the same cyclic groups, in order to explore their potential use in the pharmaceutical field and their benefit in drug manufacturing.
- Preparation of a new azo ligand by replacing the methyl group in (4-methylbenzene-1,2-diamine) or (3,5-dimethylphenol) with another chromophore group or by adding new substituted groups.
- Evaluating the dyeing efficiency with the prepared complexes and comparing it with dying with free ligand or using other types of fabrics comparing them with each other .
- Using ligands in the environmental field by extracting and removing from contaminated water .
- Conducting a theoretical study of molecular docking compounds.
- Conducting an integrated study to identify the dual effect of compounds as antioxidants and anticancer agent .
- Studying the prepared compound as drug carriers, especially for colonic drugs.
