Master’s Discussion

College of science for women/University of Baghdad examined the thesis entitled (Synthesis and Spectroscopic Diagnostics of Iron oxide doped Cadmium Oxide Nanoparticle produced by Laser Ablation Technique in Medical Application) of the student Wasan Taha Ziyad.

Objectives of the Thesis

The thesis aims to synthesize CdO and CdO:Fe₂O₃ nanoparticles using Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) and Pulsed Laser Ablation in Liquid (PLAL), and to investigate their plasma, structural, and optical properties using Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) and other characterization techniques. The study also evaluates their potential biomedical applications against cancer cell lines.

Content of the Thesis

The thesis includes:

  • Determination of plasma parameters (electron temperature and electron density) at different laser energies.
  • Structural analysis using X-ray Diffraction (XRD).
  • Morphological and elemental analysis using SEM, TEM, and EDX.
  • Optical characterization and band gap determination.
  • In-vitro cytotoxicity assessment against cancer cell lines, including MCF7 breast cancer cells

The most important recommendations, which the study has come up with, and the average obtained.

The results demonstrated that increasing laser energy improves crystallinity and reduces lattice strain. The incorporation of iron oxide enhanced optical properties and reduced the band gap energy.

Biological evaluation revealed that CdO:Fe₂O₃ nanoparticles exhibited higher anticancer activity compared to pure CdO nanoparticles, indicating their promising potential for future biomedical applications.

Thesis Grade

the average obtained: excellent
