Dissertation Discussion
College of Science for Women / University of Baghdad examined the dissertation entitled (Synthesis and Structure Identification of Some of Novel Metal Complexes Based on Guanine Derivatives and Studying Some of Their Applications) of the student (Farah Saadoon Jaafar)
The dissertation aims to synthesis new compounds of Schiff bases and their new metal complexes, identify them using different spectroscopic and analytical methods, and study their effectiveness in the laboratory in some biological fields (as antibiofilm agents for Escherichia coli bacteria, antioxidants, and anti-proliferative agents for some cancer cell lines (HDF, HFFn). In addition to studying the activity of some of these compounds as anticorrosion agents for iron metal in a low-carbon steel sample, as well as determining some of their electronic and optical properties.
This study was conducted at the University of Baghdad, College of Science for Women, Department of Chemistry. The successfully synthesized compounds demonstrated good activity in the applied biological and industrial laboratory applications.
The most important recommendations which the study has come up with:
- Synthesis of new effective derivatives based on guanines and used as chelators.
- Synthesis of new complexes for these ligands in other forms, such as using other molar ratios, or by using other co-ligands, or using other transition elements, as well as for lanthanides and actinide elements.
- Synthesize these complexes on a nanosize and compare their activity with bulk complexes.
- Studying the ability of these ligands to form Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs).
- Studying the antimalarial activity of these ligands and their complexes.
- Studying the insecticidal activity of these ligands and their complexes.
- Studying the catalytic activity of some prepared complexes in organic reactions.
- Studying the phenoxazinone synthase-like activity of the prepared complexes.
- Studying gas storage activity of (CO2, H2, and CH4) using some prepared complexes with coordination number = 4 under different pressures and temperature.
