Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women at the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Biology, organized a workshop entitled “Mycotoxins and Their Relationship with the Animal Environment.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Taybah Hashim Mohammed, Dr. Suja Hassan Abdul-Amir, and Ms. Tayibat Adnan Abdul-Wahab.
The workshop examined the effects of mycotoxins on the animal environment, particularly in poultry raised on farms and in agricultural facilities. It highlighted the importance of providing suitable environmental conditions, including proper hygiene, adequate ventilation, and effective control of temperature and humidity, thereby contributing to the maintenance of animal health and improved productivity.
The workshop also discussed the importance of the quality of feed and food products provided to poultry, as these materials may provide favorable conditions for fungal growth and mycotoxin production when suitable environmental factors are present. It emphasized the need for proper feed storage practices and adequate ventilation in poultry houses to limit fungal growth and minimize associated risks.
The workshop concluded by stressing the importance of raising awareness of the hazards of mycotoxins and adopting sound practices in feed management and the maintenance of the animal environment. Such measures contribute to improving animal health, enhancing the quality of animal products, and reducing economic losses.
