Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Samira Naji Kazim, the Student Activities Unit—in cooperation with the Department of Biology—organized a workshop titled “First Aid.” The event was held at the Hospitality Hall and was attended by students from the department.
The workshop was presented by Assistant Lecturer Ghufran Zaid Aziz, Head of Student Activities. She began her lecture by defining First Aid as a set of urgent and simple medical procedures provided to an injured or ill person at the scene of an accident before the arrival of specialized medical personnel. The primary goals are to save lives, minimize the severity of injuries, and prevent complications.
The lecturer highlighted the vital importance of first aid and its significant role in dealing with accidents and sudden emergencies, noting its direct impact on preserving individual lives and safety.
The workshop covered essential first aid skills, including:
-
Treating bleeding and wounds.
-
Managing burns.
-
Dealing with fainting and loss of consciousness.
-
Handling fractures and bruises.
-
Managing choking and respiratory distress.
Furthermore, the lecturer emphasized the necessity of spreading awareness of first aid culture among students to enhance public safety and reduce risks within the community.
The workshop witnessed positive interaction from the students through questions and discussions, which contributed to raising their health awareness and educational level.
