Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, Dean of the College of Science for Women, the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Physics, organized a scientific workshop entitled “Detection of Toxic and Medical Gases Using Thin-Film Technologies.” The workshop was presented by Ms. Duha Kareem Harfash and Ms. Shaimaa Ibrahim, with the participation of a number of faculty members and female students.
The workshop provided a comprehensive scientific overview of the importance of the early detection of toxic and medical gases and its role in safeguarding human health and environmental safety. Particular emphasis was placed on modern technologies employed in this field, especially thin-film technology, which is considered an advanced sensing approach characterized by high sensitivity and precision. The workshop also addressed the fabrication mechanisms of these films and their physical and chemical properties, in addition to explaining how they can be utilized in the design of sensors capable of detecting extremely low concentrations of gases.
The lecturers also reviewed the practical applications of these technologies in medical and industrial fields, including monitoring air quality in hospitals and laboratories, detecting hazardous gases in enclosed environments, and enhancing occupational safety measures while reducing potential health risks.
The workshop concluded by emphasizing the importance of developing the skills of students and researchers in the field of modern sensing technologies and highlighting their role in supporting scientific research and enhancing the quality of academic studies.
