Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, Dean of the College of Science for Women, the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Special Needs Unit, organized a scientific workshop entitled “Providing Support, Rehabilitation, and Skills Development for People with Special Needs.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Safa Sami Abdul-Jabbar and Ms. Hiba Ali Kareem, with the participation of a number of students and individuals interested in this important humanitarian and educational field.
The workshop addressed a range of scientific and practical topics, focusing on the importance of supporting people with special needs and facilitating their effective integration into society by providing an appropriate educational and rehabilitative environment that takes into account their individual needs. The lecturers also reviewed contemporary approaches to psychological and educational rehabilitation, as well as methods for developing life and social skills, thereby contributing to enhancing independence and strengthening self-confidence.
The workshop further discussed the role of educational institutions in providing supportive programs that contribute to developing the capabilities of this group. It also emphasized the importance of community awareness in changing stereotypical perceptions and promoting a culture of inclusion, solidarity, and mutual support. Practical examples and applicable strategies were presented for interacting with people with special needs both within the university environment and in the wider community.
The workshop concluded by emphasizing the importance of developing the skills of students and researchers in the field of supporting and rehabilitating people with special needs, given its significant role in promoting social inclusion and building an inclusive educational environment that contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
