Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Physics, organized a training course entitled “Advances in Laser Technologies and Artificial Intelligence.” The course was presented by Dr. Sama Hikmat Abdul Wahab and Ms. Shahad Abdul Jabbar Aziz. The event was held in Abdul Hakeem Hall and attended by a number of faculty members, administrative staff, and students.
The course addressed several key themes, most notably the recent advances in scientific, optical, and medical technologies, highlighting the latest developments and innovations in these fields. It also explored the applications of laser technologies and artificial intelligence in renewable energy, agriculture, cybersecurity, and industrial sectors, emphasizing their growing significance in addressing contemporary technological challenges.
A major focus of the course was the concept of photonics in both scientific and optical applications, describing it as a fundamental technology underpinning global communications and the next generation of computing processors. The presenters also discussed silicon photonics, a technology designed to integrate optical systems with conventional silicon-based electronic circuits. This technology utilizes laser light and optical signals to transmit data at high speeds through silicon substrates, offering a highly efficient alternative to the electron-based data transmission employed in traditional semiconductor chips.
Furthermore, the course explained the integration of laser technologies with artificial intelligence for high-precision image reconstruction at the nanometer scale, enabling imaging beyond the conventional optical diffraction limit. It also introduced the concept of laser-based wireless power transmission and presented a range of emerging applications that demonstrate the transformative impact of technological advancements in this field.
The course concluded with active engagement and productive discussions between the participants and the presenters, reflecting the attendees’ strong interest in the scientific and technological topics addressed during the training.
