Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science, organized a training course entitled “Mobile Application Development Using Android Studio.” The course was presented by Ms. Maryam Abdul Redha Yousif, Ms. Sahar Munim Salman, and Ms. Nada Khalil Kareem. The event was held in Abdul Hakeem Hall and attended by a number of faculty members, administrative staff, and students.
The course aimed to introduce participants to Android Studio, the official integrated development environment (IDE) for developing Android mobile applications. The presenters highlighted its comprehensive set of tools for designing, programming, testing, and deploying mobile applications. The course also explored the platform’s key features, including its user-friendly interface design tools, support for modern programming languages such as Kotlin and Java, the integrated Android emulator for testing applications prior to deployment on physical devices, and its capability to integrate applications with databases and various Internet-based services.
In addition, the course sought to enhance participants’ practical skills in mobile application development. A number of applications developed using Android Studio were demonstrated to illustrate the software’s capabilities and real-world applications. The presenters emphasized the importance of acquiring modern programming skills for students and graduates, as these competencies contribute to strengthening their academic and practical expertise while improving their competitiveness in the rapidly evolving digital labor market.
The course featured active participation and constructive interaction between the attendees and the instructors, fostering meaningful discussions and the exchange of knowledge and practical experiences.
This training course was organized in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure). Through the development of digital and technical competencies in mobile application programming, the course contributed to enhancing participants’ professional skills and promoting innovation in the field of information technology.
