Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Physics, organized a workshop entitled “Indexing Research, Theses, and Dissertation References Using EndNote Software.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Hind Fadhil Alawi, Ms. Nian Farid Majeed, and Dr. Maysaa Rabea Naima. It was held in the Abdul Hakeem Hall and attended by a number of faculty members, administrative staff, and students of the College.
The workshop aimed to introduce participants to the EndNote reference management software and highlight its importance in organizing and indexing scholarly references used in research papers, master’s theses, and doctoral dissertations, particularly for postgraduate students and academic researchers.
The workshop included a comprehensive explanation of the software interface and demonstrated how to create a personalized electronic reference library for storing and managing a wide range of scholarly resources, including books, research papers, journal articles, and academic theses. Participants were also shown how to organize these resources into customized groups, facilitating efficient retrieval and management.
In addition, the workshop explained the procedures for manually entering references or importing them directly from academic databases and scholarly websites. It also demonstrated how to integrate EndNote with Microsoft Word, enabling the automatic insertion of in-text citations and the generation of reference lists according to internationally recognized citation styles, including APA, MLA, Chicago, and others.
The presenters highlighted the key features of EndNote, including its ability to minimize errors in reference formatting, save time and effort in the preparation of academic manuscripts, and automatically update, edit, and reorganize references whenever citations are added to or removed from a document.
The workshop concluded by emphasizing the importance of employing modern reference management software to support scientific research and enhance researchers’ skills in organizing and managing scholarly references, thereby contributing to the improvement of the quality and efficiency of academic and research outputs.
