In accordance with the directives of the Presidency of the University of Baghdad, based on the resolutions issued by the esteemed Council of Ministers, the College of Science for Women has commenced the implementation of a comprehensive plan to remove sandwich panel structures from within the college. This initiative aims to reduce the presence of buildings constructed from low-cost, highly flammable materials and to enhance safety and security standards across the university campus.
Under the direction of the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, and with the direct supervision of the Assistant Dean for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Salah Khairy Jaber, the removal campaign was launched with the participation of the Head of the Construction and Projects Unit, the Head of the Internal Audit and Control Division, the Civil Defense Officer, and the Head of the Services and Maintenance Division.
The removal works have been carried out according to a carefully designed, multi-phase implementation plan based on the size of the structures and their occupancy levels. This phased approach ensures the smooth execution of the project while minimizing any disruption to the college’s academic and administrative activities.
Following the preparation of suitable alternative facilities, the college initiated the first and second phases of the project as part of its efforts to strengthen public safety measures. In addition, several of the cleared sites have been repurposed into recreational and seating areas for students. These spaces have been equipped to meet students’ daily needs and provide a comfortable environment for relaxation between lectures, thereby contributing to a more organized and student-friendly campus environment.
The College Deanship affirmed that this project forms part of a broader series of developmental initiatives aimed at improving safety standards and ensuring the well-being of all staff members and students. It also supports the enhancement of campus services, thereby contributing positively to the overall quality of university life.
