Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Biology, organized a scientific workshop entitled “Algae and Industrial Applications.” The workshop was presented by Ms. Taybat Adnan Wahab, Dr. Saja Hassan Abdul Ameer, and Ms. Ruwaida Abdullah Abdul Hussein, with the attendance of a number of faculty members and students.
The workshop explored the importance of algae as a promising biological resource with diverse industrial applications. It highlighted their use in the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries, as well as their role in biofuel production and the treatment of contaminated water.
The presentations also examined the biological and chemical characteristics of algae that make them a sustainable and environmentally friendly resource. In addition, practical applications and research case studies were presented to illustrate the potential of algae in supporting the bioeconomy and promoting sustainable industrial development.
The workshop concluded by emphasizing the importance of developing the knowledge and skills of students and researchers in the application of algae-based technologies for industrial purposes, recognizing their significant role in advancing scientific research and enhancing the quality of academic studies.
