Department of Chemistry Organizes a Workshop on Common Writing Errors Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry at the College of Science for Women / University of Baghdad, organized a scientific workshop entitled “Common Errors in English Writing.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Basuad Maher Muhail and Dr. Asmaa Mahdi Saleh.

The workshop addressed a range of key topics focusing on the most common errors made by students in English academic writing, whether in scientific research papers, academic reports, or theses. It highlighted the distinction between correct and incorrect linguistic structures and identified recurring grammatical and spelling errors that negatively affect the clarity and accuracy of academic texts.

The workshop also emphasized the importance of selecting appropriate vocabulary within scientific contexts and avoiding literal translation, which often leads to weak sentence construction or distortion of intended meaning. In addition, it included practical demonstrations and applied examples illustrating how to correct errors and improve writing style. The presenters further stressed the importance of continuous practice in English academic writing and engagement with reputable scientific sources as an effective means of enhancing language proficiency and improving research quality.

The workshop concluded by highlighting the importance of developing English academic writing skills among students and researchers, and their vital role in enhancing the quality of scientific research and improving academic output in line with the requirements of contemporary scholarly publishing.
