Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Mathematics, organized a scientific workshop entitled “How to Develop Sound Mathematical Thinking.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Tamadhur Arif Ibrahim, Ms. Samah Mohammed Ali, and Dr. Zainab Anwar Ahmed.
The workshop aimed to enhance students’ mathematical thinking skills by promoting logical reasoning and systematic problem-solving approaches. It addressed several key topics, including the foundations of sound mathematical thinking, methods of constructing logical conclusions based on mathematical concepts and principles, and strategies for strengthening the ability to connect ideas and analyze mathematical problems with accuracy and precision.
The workshop also highlighted the importance of critical thinking in the study of mathematics and its role in simplifying complex concepts and transforming them into clear, practical, and applicable steps. A range of practical examples and modern instructional methods were presented to support deeper understanding and reinforce students’ conceptual comprehension.
Furthermore, emphasis was placed on the significance of continuous practice and training in developing cognitive abilities and building confidence in addressing a variety of mathematical problems. The workshop concluded by underscoring the importance of cultivating sound mathematical thinking skills among students and researchers, given their vital role in supporting academic development, advancing scientific achievement, and enhancing the quality of educational outcomes.
