Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science, organized a scientific workshop entitled “How to Write a Scientific Research Paper.” The workshop was presented by Ms. Nada Khalil Karim and Ms. Sahar Munim Salman.
The workshop aimed to introduce students and researchers to the fundamental principles of preparing and writing scientific research in accordance with sound academic methodologies. It addressed several key topics, including the selection of an appropriate research topic and the formulation of a precise title that accurately reflects the content of the study. The workshop also covered the identification of the research problem, its significance, and research objectives, in addition to methods of data collection, the use of reliable scientific sources, and proper citation practices based on recognized academic standards.
Furthermore, the workshop reviewed the essential stages of constructing a scientific research paper, beginning with the preparation of the introduction and theoretical framework, followed by the research methodology, and concluding with the analysis and discussion of results in a rigorous scientific manner. It also highlighted the most common mistakes made by students during the research-writing process and provided practical guidance on how to avoid them.
Special emphasis was placed on the importance of utilizing modern technologies and supportive software tools to organize research effectively and present it in the required academic format. The workshop concluded by underscoring the significance of developing students’ and researchers’ skills in scientific writing, given its crucial role in advancing scientific research and enhancing the quality of academic studies.
