Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry, organized a workshop entitled “Chemistry in Forensic Science.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Maha Kadhim Salman, Ms. Raghad Abdul Basit Hamad, and Ms. Narjis Muhannad Habib.

The workshop aimed to highlight the pivotal role of chemical sciences in crime detection and forensic investigations, as well as the application of advanced chemical techniques in the analysis of forensic evidence. It also addressed methods for examining substances and compounds found at crime scenes and transforming them into accurate scientific data that support judicial proceedings. Furthermore, the workshop reviewed the latest developments in this vital field.

This workshop contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, by enhancing the accuracy of criminal justice processes and promoting reliance on robust scientific evidence to uphold the rule of law and ensure community safety and security.
