Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Physics, organized a scientific workshop entitled “Vision Correction Using LASIK.” The workshop was presented by Ms. Shahad Dhafer Nasser, Ms. Fadia Jabbar Alwan, and Ms. Huda Abduljabbar Hussein, with the attendance of a number of faculty members and female students.
The workshop provided a comprehensive scientific explanation of LASIK technology and its mechanism in correcting refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. It highlighted the physical principles underlying this technique, which relies on precise laser beams to reshape the corneal surface, thereby improving visual acuity and reducing the need for eyeglasses or contact lenses. The workshop also addressed the key eligibility criteria for patients undergoing the procedure, potential risks, and recent advancements in this field.
The workshop concluded by emphasizing the importance of enhancing scientific knowledge of modern medical technologies, including LASIK, and their role in linking theoretical understanding with practical applications. This integration contributes to the development of students’ and researchers’ skills and supports their academic progress.
