Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khdim, the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Department of Biology, organized a scientific workshop entitled “How to Select Reputable Scientific Journals.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Fikrat Majeed Hassan and Dr. Hala Haitham Mohammed Ali. It aimed to raise awareness among researchers and students about the importance of selecting accredited and reputable scientific journals for publishing their research, in a manner that ensures the quality and reliability of scholarly output.

The workshop included a detailed explanation of the fundamental criteria for selecting scientific journals. criteria included evaluating the Impact Factor, verifying that the journal is indexed in global databases such as Scopus and Clarivate, and ensuring the journal’s credibility while avoiding predatory journals that lack rigorous peer-review standards. The workshop also addressed mechanisms for evaluating journals in terms of their editorial boards, publication timelines, publication fees, and the importance of aligning the journal’s scope with the research topic.

Furthermore, the workshop presented a set of practical steps to assist researchers in selecting appropriate journals, including consulting official journal websites, reviewing author guidelines, analyzing previously published articles, and utilizing modern academic search tools to identify journals with strong scholarly reputations. Such practices contribute to enhancing the quality of scientific publishing and achieving wider academic dissemination of research.

The workshop concluded by emphasizing the importance of developing the skills of students and researchers in selecting reputable scientific journals, given their significant role in supporting scientific research and improving the overall quality of academic studies.
