Under the patronage of the respected Dean of the College of Science for Women, Professor Dr. Sameera Naji Khidm, the Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Mathematics, organized a scientific workshop entitled “Criteria for Selecting Appropriate Journals for Publishing Scientific Research.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Jalal Hatem Hussein, Ms. Israa Abbas Ibrahim, and Ms. Zahraa Amouri Ali, with the participation of a number of faculty members and students.
The workshop addressed a range of important scientific topics aimed at familiarizing participants with the principles and criteria for selecting reputable journals for publishing scientific research. It emphasized distinguishing between peer-reviewed and recognized journals versus predatory or non-reputable publications. The workshop also introduced key concepts such as the Impact Factor and authoritative global databases, including Scopus and Web of Science.
Additionally, the workshop highlighted the importance of aligning the research topic with the scope and submission guidelines of the target journal. It explained the steps for submitting a manuscript and effectively responding to reviewers’ comments, while providing practical advice to enhance the likelihood of acceptance and publication in journals with strong academic reputations.
The workshop concluded by underscoring the importance of developing students’ and researchers’ skills in selecting reputable scientific journals, given their critical role in supporting scientific research and improving the quality of academic studies.
